All Guides   /   3 Common Boiler Issues & How To Fix Them

Here is an infographic which shares 3 common boiler problems that you may experience in your home and how you should go about solving them.

My boiler is losing pressure/pressure is too low or high

A boiler is a complex system which can go wrong from time to time and losing pressure in your system is one of the most common issues that can happen. Your boiler should be around 1 bar, or in the green, when not running.

To fix incorrect pressure:

  1. Look for your ‘filling loop’ this is a flexible tube with one or two taps on it.
  2. Open the taps and watch as the needle on the gauge moves towards 1.
  3. When the needle reaches 1, or is in the green, close the taps.

My boiler is broken, won’t turn on or won’t ignite

There are plenty of places a fault can occur within a complex boiler system, and many reasons why your boiler might not function properly or at all.

To fix a boiler that won’t ignite:

  1. Check the boiler pressure, is it too high, too low?
  2. Check the basics, is your electricity, water and gas working correctly.
  3. If you’re still having issues, it’s time to call your boiler company.

My boiler is leaking gas

If you suspect a gas leak in your house, evacuate the premises immediately and contact the gas emergency service at 0800 111 999. Some of the more common causes for a gas leak are poorly fitted appliances, such as your gas cooker, or corroded pipes.

If you can smell gas:

  • Do not use anything electrical.
  • Do not ignite anything and put out all naked flames.
  • Turn your gas supply off at the meter.
  • Open all doors and windows to allow gas to escape.
